We take responsibility
Growing sustainably: corporate social responsibility for us and our environment
Shaping the future together
As a company, we take social responsibly very seriously. On the one hand, we want to create a working environment within PIKON where all employees enjoy working and stay healthy. On the other hand, we want to give something back to the society we live in and actively contribute to preserving our environment.
We are particularly active in these two areas:
Social responsibility
For many years, PIKON has been organising Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities together with our German office in Saarbrücken. A special part of this is the involvement of our new employees. As part of the “Nigel Challenge,” they choose a social project to support and contribute to it personally. This benefits the community and strengthens team spirit within PIKON at the same time.
The goal of our CSR activities is to give back to the community through practical social action. Each office, in Saarbrücken and Genk, selects a local NGO to support. Together with colleagues, one or more initiatives are organized for that organisation.
Some activities that already have been organized include helping to improve the local environment through a neighbourhood clean-up around our office in Genk, and running a clothing drive for Vincentius Genk to collect items for people in need.
We have also supported Dierenasiel Genk in the past by donating office materials, volunteering at the shelter, and even ordering our Christmas chocolate from them to further support their work.
Through these initiatives, PIKON shows that responsible business is not only about success, but also about helping society and making a positive impact in our communities.
Ecological footprint
Our environment is fragile and must be protected. Current data on global warming makes this abundantly clear. We are convinced that every individual can and must contribute to environmental protection.
At PIKON, we attach great importance to the conscious use of resources and the protection of the environment. Over the years, we have launched several initiatives to actively promote sustainability within our company—because we believe sustainability is about both our planet and our people.
In 2021, we set up a dedicated team to record and analyse our carbon footprint, develop proposals to reduce it, and integrate sustainability more strongly into our CSR strategy. Since then, we have introduced a paperless office, avoid unnecessary travel whenever possible, and prefer to purchase carbon-neutral products.
We also invest in more sustainable infrastructure at our office locations. Our office building is equipped with solar panels and charging stations, allowing us to cover our full office electricity needs and inject any surplus electricity back into the grid. By the end of 2026, we plan to double our solar panel installation to produce sufficient electricity for our growing electric car park.
Today, around 75% of our company car fleet is e-hybrid or fully electric. All new company cars ordered since the beginning of 2025 are fully electric, and our goal is to transition to a fully electric fleet by the end of 2027. Colleagues can conveniently charge their cars at the office. In addition, employees who want to make their commute more environmentally friendly can benefit from our bicycle initiatives such as financial support to purchase a bike via a company program, as well as mileage allowances for commuting by bike (and, where applicable, bike leasing options that can also be used privately).
Sustainability does not stop at the office door. Our employees regularly receive practical tips and ideas on how to live more sustainably in their private lives, because we believe that real change happens when everyone contributes.
Beyond the minimum requirements, we also invest in initiatives that support long-term well-being and responsible growth:
- Physical health: monthly sports day initiatives, fruit at work, and more
- Mental well-being: programs such as personal mastery training, Grow skills initiatives, mindfulness, yoga, flexible working options, and working from home
- Diversity, equity & inclusion: ensuring equal opportunities and equal compensation for all employees
- Learning & development: a minimum of 10 working days per person per year dedicated to training and development
Through these measures, we aim to continuously reduce our environmental impact, strengthen our culture of responsibility, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
