With the ELSTER Connector for SAP, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) has implemented the ideal foundation for meeting the requirements of the Reporting Regulation efficiently and in full compliance with the law, directly from within the SAP system. This enables tax-related reports to be submitted to the tax authorities digitally, in a structured format and without any disruption to the data flow, and to be integrated into existing customer systems.
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of Germany’s leading scientific institutions, bringing together research, teaching and innovation under one roof. As a university of excellence with a complex organisational structure, KIT requires efficient and reliable digital processes, including in administrative and finance-related areas.
“Using the ELSTER Connector for SAP, we were able to efficiently integrate the requirements of the Notification Regulation into our existing SAP programmes and establish a reliable basis for digital transmission that works straight out of the box.”

Like many other publicly funded higher education institutions, KIT faced the challenge of implementing the requirements of the Notification Regulation within the specified timeframe and using a system-based approach. The electronic submission of tax-related notifications to the tax authorities requires a stable, traceable and, as far as possible, streamlined process.
Particularly in the higher education sector, with its established system landscapes and diverse payment processes, it is crucial to establish a solution that can be integrated into the existing SAP system whilst also meeting the legal requirements. Manual or upstream processes often result in additional work and increase complexity.
With the ELSTER Connector for SAP, PIKON provides a solution that enables the electronic submission of returns via the ELSTER/ERiC interface directly from SAP; it can be flexibly integrated either as a standard solution or via an API. The add-on can be integrated into existing SAP processes, thereby supporting the efficient technical implementation of statutory requirements.
For KIT, this meant introducing a solution that requires no additional complex infrastructure and fits seamlessly into the existing system landscape and its customisations. This laid the foundations for a digital, secure and future-proof implementation of the Notification Regulation.
By using the ELSTER Connector for SAP, KIT now has a solution that enables reports to be submitted digitally directly from within SAP. This reduces the need for manual steps and makes the overall process more transparent and easier to trace.
At the same time, the solution provides a cost-effective and scalable basis for meeting the requirements of the Reporting Regulation on a permanent and legally compliant basis. For organisations such as KIT, this is an important step towards efficiently integrating regulatory requirements into existing administrative processes.
