With the ambition to modernise its data analytics landscape, Wörwag Pharma – like many other companies – was faced with various questions such as
As part of a pilot project, requirements of the controlling department were implemented with the SAP Analytics Cloud to answer precisely these questions and thus support decision-making.
Wörwag Pharma GmbH & Co. KG is a German pharmaceutical company headquartered in Böblingen near Stuttgart with more than 20 international subsidiaries in Asia, Europe and South America. In 2021, the company generated sales of 269,9 million euros with more than 1,200 employees worldwide.
The company develops, produces and distributes pharmaceuticals for the prevention and treatment of lifestyle diseases. Wörwag Pharma is particularly committed to the clinical use of biofactors – which include vitamins, minerals and trace elements – in the prevention and treatment of primarily age-related diseases, such as diabetes mellitus.
„With PIKON, we have found an experienced project partner for the modernisation of our data analytics landscape. I am sure that we have made the right decision with the SAP Analytics Cloud, also in order to remain future-proof. We produce considerable amounts of data every day. Good data management is unavoidable these days. With the SAP Cloud solution, we now collect this data centrally and use the insights as a basis for optimised decision-making processes.“

Wörwag Pharma Gmbh & Co. KG
Microsoft Power BI or SAP Analytics Cloud – that was a crucial question at the beginning. In an initial workshop, we discussed the general requirements for a future analysis tool with the customer, presented the functionalities and possibilities (also in connection with SAP BW or SAP ERP) of the SAP Analytics Cloud and evaluated them together.
In order to go into more detail and gain a more accurate picture of the SAP Analytics Cloud, a pilot project was launched. There were already concrete requirements for a “Sales Cockpit” from the “Controlling” area – exactly the right thing to evaluate the performance of the SAP Analytics Cloud with this example.
The following activities were carried out by PIKON in the project:
Last but not least, the result of the pilot project was not just a simple “prototype” – but the dashboards created were already built in such a way that they are now in productive use as the “first” analytics application.
In the end, Wörwag decided to use the SAP Analytics Cloud and thus sustainably and consistently follows the internally issued SAP strategy. Furthermore, the tool also fits into the SAP-based system landscape, which is also being modernised through the use of S/4HANA and BW/4HANA. For Wörwag, this decision represents a signpost to the future and so SAC will be further expanded internally in the coming years. The business departments have been convinced and it is not surprising that many demands are now being addressed to the BI managers – an important milestone on the way to becoming a data-driven company.
